So here’s to giving a much-deserved scratch behind the ears to our lovable Dalmatians, loyal Labrador retrievers, pint-sized poodles, and every mutt in between for the following health advantages of ownership.

Health Benefits Associated with Having Pets

Whether you’ve grown up with pets or recently adopted one, you may already know how beneficial sharing your home with a furry friend can be. From enhancing social skills and staying active to decreasing the risk of depression and teaching responsibility, sharing your home with a furry companion offers numerous health benefits.

Pets, Especially Dogs, Keep You Active

You may be tempted to come home after a long day at work and sit down on the couch, but if you come home to an excited pooch, chances are you’ll take him or her for a walk instead. The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute of Health (NIH) have both conducted studies that prove pet owners exhibit decreased blood pressure and cholesterol and triglyceride levels, which can minimize the risk of having a heart attack.

Exercising your dog doesn’t have to be limited to walking. Agility training, jogging, biking, rollerblading, hiking, and even doga (Yoga with dogs) are all great activities that will keep both you and your dog active and healthy

You can Beat the Blues With Your Pet

Who can resist a purring kitten or wagging tail? There’s a reason why animals are used in hospitals, schools, and nursing homes for animal-assisted therapy. Studies have shown that animals can reduce tension and improve mood. Not only do they offer unconditional love, pets offer companionship if you’re feeling lonely or you need motivation to get out of the house. They don’t judge or critique your actions—they simply want to be with you. If you’ve had a bad day at the office or you’ve had an argument, a pet can distract you and help you redirect your feelings to shake your bad mood off.

Get Great Health Benefits from Having a Pet

Exercise can be mundane and boring. For some, venturing to the local gym to workout isn’t enough encouragement. A four-legged fitness buddy may be exactly what you need to get off the couch and out the door. Here are seven ways to get exercise with your dog that will make you both happy.

Walking With your Pets

And aside from companionship, most dog owners welcome a dog into their family to have a walking companion. Brisk walking is a great way for both dog and owner to get some exercise. Not only does is lead to a strong heart, lower blood pressure, denser bones, and more energy, it’s a great way to bond with your pooch.

You can enlist the help of a dog trainer can teach you and your dog how to walk nicely on a leash without pulling. There is no rule as to how far you should walk, but make sure if you have a puppy, that you build up the duration of the walk gradually.

If your dog is with you on a walk or you’re sharing a story about your house cat, pets can be an icebreaker in any social setting. Pets provide a common denominator when chatting with other pet owners or animal lovers.

And the people who are socially awkward or introverted and have a hard time meeting and getting to know people, a friendly dog saying hello can be all it takes to start a conversation. Visiting a local dog park, taking obedience classes or walking in the neighborhood provides ample opportunities for both you and your dog to interact with two and four legged friends.

Tips for Summer Exercise with Your Dog

Research tells us that working out with a buddy not only increases the incentive for exercise, but also keeps us accountable to our fitness goals. Whoever said that your partner in runs had to be two-legged instead of 4-legged?

And also, running with your most loyal friend is a great way to bond and get outdoors for some decent daily exercise to boot! Plus, Fido won’t likely complain the entire time about his or her spouse. Here are seven tips to keep in mind when taking your precious pooch along for a run.

Walk Your Dog on A Leash

For the safety of your pet, you, and passersby, your dog should always be leashed when you’re running in a public space (i.e., parks, beaches, community trails). Not only will a leash ensure your dog doesn’t travel underfoot and trip you up during a run—it will also ensure your pet keeps pace with you and doesn’t wander off.

And if you own a retractable leash, leave it at home or lock in the distance at roughly 6-feet so you don’t leave too much distance between you and your pet. Too much space could lead to your pet getting tangled under other people, kids, pets, and cyclists on route, which poses a safety hazard.

It’s easy to get dehydrated on a long run, especially if on days when it’s particularly hot and humid outside. That’s why you should ensure you and your 4-legged running buddy stay properly hydrated before, during, and following your workouts.

If you run long distances with your dog, bring a water bottle along for the trek. This way you can prevent your pet from drinking from contaminated puddles and dirty lakes or ponds. Believe me, if he or she is thirsty enough, a dog will drink from almost anywhere and could get sick without a clean water source available.

You Will Have to Poop and Scoop

Despite the fact that you’re in the middle of a workout, you still have several responsibilities as a pet owner. One of your primary obligations is to follow “poop and scoop” regulations in accordance with your city laws (and in compliance with being a respectful human being).

Chances are, thanks to gravitational pull and when he or she last chowed down, that your canine pal might need to make a pit stop along your running route to do some business. That means you’ll need to carry the proper disposal materials (poo bags) along with you so you can do your “doodie” duty. Treat your pet with the utmost respect.

7 Ways to Deal with the Negative People in your Life

Have you ever been faced with trying to stay positive when others around you are negative? Negative people can be a challenge to be around. They will bring you down and drain your energy. A negative person can throw your best laid plans to be positive right out the window.

Whether your child or spouse has an occasional negative day or you deal with a family member, friend or co-worker that is chronically negative, there are things you can do to remain positive in the face of negativity.

1) Let the Negativity Pass

Whatever you do, do not argue with a negative person. Arguing only adds fuel to the fire. A negative person will feed off any negativity that will strengthen his mood or attitude. I have noticed when my children are in a crabby mood, it is best to avoid trying to convince them to analyze and adjust their attitude. As soon as I take the approach of being in opposition with them, they seize the opportunity to prove to me that life stinks. Their negativity intensifies and the situation gets worse before it gets better. Sometimes the best thing to do is remain silent and let the negativity pass.

2) Negative People Need Love

You know how difficult it can be to give love and positive attention to negative people. Unfortunately, that is often exactly what they need. Deep inside that mean and critical person is a person that is usually afraid he or she is unlovable. It is our challenge to rise above the negative attitude and love the injured person inside. How do you show love when someone is negative? You must listen to what she is trying to tell you. Acknowledge the feelings she has by saying something like, “You sound very angry right now”. Even if you don’t quite understand the person’s feelings, know that your reality is different than someone else’s. Ask how you might help the negative person. This shows legitimate interest in her happiness. Offer a hug even if you get rejected. Remember not to take a rejection of your love personally. A negative person often has difficulty receiving love from others.

3) Focus on the Positive

If you try really hard, there is always something positive to be found in any situation. Pretend you are on a treasure hunt and search for any gold or jewels you can emphasize. Even a negative person has positive qualities. When a person is drowning in negativity, it can be difficult for them to see the positive. So often my clients focus on the negative aspects of themselves. They forget about all the great things they are doing. I admit that sometimes a negative person doesn’t want to see the positive. This might require her to shift her outlook. Negativity can become a habit and habits are hard to break. Be patient and gently remind your grumpy friend or family member to look for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Hopefully, in her down time, she will begin to reflect on what you have said.

4) Ask Negative People to Elaborate

You may hear a negative person say things like: “Women are fickle.” “You can’t trust doctors.” “My husband makes me miserable.” These kinds of statements are a type of cognitive distortion referred to as generalizations. To help a person sort through her distorted thinking, ask for more specifics. Questions like “Which women are fickle?” or “What specifically about your husband is making you miserable?” forces a person to evaluate what he or she is really trying to say. A negative person will either give up because it takes too much effort to explain himself, or he or she will get to the bottom of the issue.

5) Detach and Avoid Trying to Change the Negative Person

Learning to detach emotionally from a negative person can greatly benefit you and the other person. A negative person will fight you if you try to change them. If you want, you can try a little reverse psychology and agree with everything she says. I once read a great article about a mother who was exasperated with her son’s negative mood. Everything she tried to soothe him and make him feel better backfired. She finally gave up and started agreeing with everything he said. When her son told her his friends were mean, she agreed with him. When he complained that his teacher didn’t know anything, she couldn’t agree more. After several minutes of this kind of dialogue with her son, his mood suddenly shifted. He declared that he was tired and he went to bed with a smile on his face.

6) Stay Away from Negative People

If you have negative people in your life that are critically affecting your mental and physical health, you need to evaluate whether or not you want these people in your life. Some people are so chronically negative that you have no other choice but to remove them from your life. It’s possible to do that with friends. You can find another job if your boss or other co-workers are bringing you down. Other people, such as children and spouses, are difficult to remove from your life. In this instance, professional counseling may be the answer. To protect your well being, you need to enforce very strong boundaries with negative people.

7) Keep Your Own Negative Thoughts and Behaviors in Check

If you do nothing else but focus on managing your own negative thoughts and behavior, you will come a long way towards remaining positive. A negative attitude is contagious, but a positive attitude is infectious as well. Hang out with positive people that encourage you to be your best self. Use positive affirmations to overcome negative self-talk. Express your gratitude for all the positive things in your life. Take the time everyday to watch all the beautiful things going on around you. Read inspirational material and listen to joyful music. Take care of yourself spiritually. Do whatever you have to do to remain positive and happy despite the negativity you face. The world will be a better place because of you and your attitude. And you never know, you just might help a negative person make a change to a better way of living.

4 Tips On Choosing A Law Firm

As a business owner, you can never predict what will happen in the market or to your business. There could be one event and you could be thrown out of business. This is why it is important to remain prepared for anything that life throws at you. In order to ensure complete security of your business at all times, it is important to work with a law firm in case of an accident or personal injury. Do the groundwork and choose a law firm which has a good name in the industry. If you feel overwhelmed in choosing the law firm, follow the tips mentioned below.

1. Free consultation

There are some firms which try to get as much money from their clients as possible. Hence, it is best to choose a law firm that offers a free consultation for the first time. It will be a chance for you to see how well they approach the issue and you will be able to narrate your concerns to them. Understand the assistance and support they provide. If you think that they are reliable and will help you in the case, they are the right people for you. However, if you think that they are only interested in your money, choose a different firm.

2. Professional knowledge

Before you choose a law firm, you need to check the knowledge and experience they have. It makes no sense to work with a firm that is only recently established a business. You need to pick a firm which has many years of experience in the industry and can manage to give great advice to you. A firm with no experience will not be able to do the job you expect them to do.

3. Prompt responses

It is important that you choose a firm which has a good reputation in the market and can give you regular updates. A firm with a bad reputation will not be there for you and will not give you prompt responses. You need a firm who will be in touch with your throughout the case and will communicate to you about everything that is happening with the case. You need people who will answer your calls and emails at all times. Check with the firm how soon they respond to the clients before you work with them.

4. Services offered

There are some firms which only handle certain specific services but a professional firm will provide you with all the services. It is important to verify this information by meeting someone from their firm or checking on their website. Get details about their expertise with regard to a service or contact their office in person before you go finalize the deal.

It is important to choose the right law firm to work with. No matter the size and type of your business, if you have the right people working with you, you will be able to ensure that you are protected from any legal trouble.

Understanding More About Credit Scores and How to Improve Them

There are numerous articles that recommend the best ways to improve the credit scores of both individuals and businesses. Maintaining healthy credit has many benefits like having a better chance of receiving a credit card with a higher limit or obtaining loans.

Unfortunately, there are still many people who do not understand what a credit score is or some of the best ways to improve it. The fortunate thing is that you are reading the right article. Here, we will explain what it is and also tell you how to keep yours healthy. Read on to learn more.

What Is a Credit Score?

Credit authorities from different countries usually assign people a three-digit score that depends on their financial files. The number shows the calculated likelihood that a person will pay debts like loans, credit cards and bills among other things. The lenders and financial institutions are the primary users of the information. The higher the number, the healthier your score is and the more likely you are to receive a loan or line of credit. To keep it as high as possible, follow the tips we will share below.

Pay Debts on Time

You need to ask yourself why you have been failing to repay on time. Is it that you have been forgetting, or are you facing a financial strain? Well, reminders do work well for most people. They help you to stay alert that you have debts to clear at the end of the month. It is also a wake-up call to adopt proper financial management in your life. Paying debts on time creates a healthy credit profile because the lenders send such information to the credit bureaus. As a matter of fact, it is important to keep a close eye on your report to know where you are already. Sometimes, they may forget to submit the information that you need to improve your score.

Use Your Credit Card Carefully

Most people and institutions have one or more credit cards. Having one can build or destroy your credit score depending on how it is used. It is recommended that you avoid putting too much strain on your credit card. On the other hand, you cannot keep it unused. Only use your credit card when necessary and keep your balance as low as possible. This way, you show the lenders that you are responsible, and they use such information to improve your score. You can read more about how to improve your credit score at

Check Your Bills

This is where most people fail. They think that regular bills have no impact on the credit score. However, how you handle your regular bills determines your credit score to some extent. Paying bills on time is a plus because those sending the bills like utility companies usually send their reports on you to the credit bureaus. Set up reminders to avoid forgetting or postponing the bills past the deadline.

By now, you already know some of the best tips on how to keep your credit rating healthy. As mentioned earlier, you need to keep an eye on your report to know if the lenders are submitting all important information that would improve your score. Sometimes, incorrect information can cost you some points off your score, but if you complain, they will rectify the situation. Ensure that your score stays healthy at all times.By now, you already know some of the best tips on how to keep your credit rating healthy. The Skinny on the Herpes Virus

Of the commonly known sexually transmitted diseases, herpes is probably only second to HIV in causing panic among sexually active individuals. There is good reason for this, as statistics show that although the rate of infection for other STD’s is dropping worldwide, the rate for herpes infection is actually rising. The Center for Disease Control estimates that, in the United States, 1 out of every 6 people between the ages of 14 and 49 has genital herpes.

All forms of sexual contact – oral, vaginal, anal and even kissing – can transmit the herpes virus. Herpes symptoms can vary from person to person, and some people who are infected may never even know they carry the disease because it remains dormant in their bodies. Other people can experience outbreaks almost immediately after infection. Herpes outbreaks can occur in as little as 2 to 20 days after exposure to the virus.

Herpes appears as a small blister on the skin in the genital area. The blisters do not always form directly on the genitals, and can also appear on the thigh region close to the genitals. Herpes blisters are painful sores, and when they erupt they ooze liquid. It is through contact with this liquid that the herpes virus is spread. Once the sores have erupted, they will crust over and gradually heal and disappear over a period of several weeks. This period, when sores are visible on the body, is commonly known as an outbreak. First outbreaks can also be accompanied by flu-like symptoms, such as aches, fever, and swollen glands. Although there is no cure for the herpes virus, prescription medications that can manage and shorten outbreaks are available. Many people who live with the herpes virus also find that managing stress levels helps to limit outbreaks.

Herpes is a very serious infection even aside from the sexually transmitted nature of the virus. Once an outbreak occurs, infected individuals must work diligently to control the outbreak and keep it from spreading to other parts of the body. The liquid that erupts from herpes sores is the source of infection, and touching sores can spread the virus to other body parts. Especially serious are when herpes infections spread to the eyes or brain. Individuals with already compromised immune systems from HIV or other illnesses are at a higher risk of developing serious complications from a herpes infection.

Prevention is the key to avoiding a herpes infection. If sexually active, know your partners and their histories thoroughly. Many people find the discussion of STD’s embarrassing or insulting, but since there is no cure for herpes, staying informed is the only sure method of preventing exposure. Regular STD testing is necessary, especially when switching sexual partners. Using condoms during sex can help to reduce transmission of the virus, but condoms cannot prevent it completely. Herpes sores can appear in areas not covered by a condom and transmit the virus through skin-to-skin contact. The only guaranteed way to avoid coming in contact with the herpes virus is through 100% abstinence from sexual contact. Once a sexual relationship is begun, remaining monogamous with an uninfected partner will help reduce the risk of infection.

If you think you might have herpes, or have been exposed to herpes, talk to your doctor immediately. Beginning treatment right away can be a profound help in keeping herpes infections under control.
