As energy shares tumble, opportunity lurks

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Shale stocks have been hard-hit as investors see margins all but evaporating following the slide in crude oil prices, but the U.S. shale energy boom is not over.

An index of oil and gas exploration and production (.SPLRCOILP) tumbled 8.15 percent on Friday as U.S. crude (CLc1) fell almost 10 percent to around $66.36 per barrel to hit its lowest in 4-1/2 years.

The slide came the day after oil cartel OPEC decided not to cut output in a meeting in Vienna. Prior to the decision, Saudi officials were reported as saying the kingdom, with its large currency reserves, was prepared to withstand oil prices as low as $70-$80 per barrel for up to a year.

But the weaker shale players may not have that long.

“We do not know if OPEC has ulterior motives to let oil prices drift lower and pinch the global (exploration and production) sector, or if reaching a consensus on cuts was just too challenging,” wrote Wells Fargo Securities in a Friday client note. “What is clear is that lower cash flows are highly likely to translate into lower E&P spending.”

U.S. crude prices were catching up to Thursday’s action in Brent (LCOc1) as markets across the United States were closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. Friday’s was a half-day session.

“We’ll wait to see the trend next week when there’s full market volume, however it’s clear that as oil prices come down there will be pressure for the weaker of the companies in the sector, particularly exploration and the ones that are highly indebted,” said Quincy Krosby, market strategist at Prudential Financial in Newark, New Jersey.

The overall energy sector of the S&P 500 fell 6.3 percent on Friday, adding to its year-to-date losses, now at 10.3 percent.

Fourteen of the sector’s more than 40 stocks are within 2 percent of a 52-week low and the sector’s weighting on the S&P 500 has dropped to single digits, closing below 8 percent after Friday’s shellacking, according to Reuters data.

Nearly 90 percent of the sector’s shares are trading below their 100-day moving average.

However, the sharp declines also create an opportunity.

“We recently moved from an underweight to a neutral weight rating in energy, so directionally we agree with the idea that this weakness is a buying opportunity, but it is very hard to tell where the bottom is,” said Tony Roth, chief investment officer at Wilmington Trust in Wilmington, Delaware.

“Crude seems to have no floor right now, and we could easily see the price drop into the low $60s.”

With the big stock price drops, others see a run to consolidation. The sector subindex is down 12 percent in 2014, with year-to-date losses of more than 20 percent in seven companies.

“I think we’ll see some healthy consolidation take place,” said Brian Jacobsen, chief portfolio strategist at Wells Fargo Funds Management in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.

“Some may wither on the vine, but technology has improved to make it profitable to extract at a lower price point than last year. As a result, we’ll probably see some opportunistic buying.”

Jacobsen and Krosby said the slide in oil prices and the sector’s shares does not mean the boom in the energy sector in the United States is ending, but will likely enter a new stage of development.

“The renaissance isn’t over,” said Jacobsen. “It’s just maturing.”

COSIGN Application: An Innovative way to Make Money by Taking a Photo, Tagging it, & Sharing It

TIMLtYjYIt is not a secret that the Internet has a variety of different things to offer such as the opportunity of making money straight from the comfort of your own home. There are indeed an uncountable number of money making opportunities that one can choose to partake in, but opting to join the ones that have been the talk of the town for the last couple of years will not really produce a meaningful income, as the competition will be too grand.

At the moment, there are numerous of brand new money making opportunities that are causing a great deal of buzz on the Internet among individuals of all ages, but there is one, in particular, that is standing-out from the rest for its innovative approach that will benefit anybody who joins it no matter how popular it becomes in the future, which is what really makes it buzz-worthy:

COSIGN application:

The COSIGN application has just recently been funded by the public, and it is currently in the process of becoming established so that everybody can begin taking advantage of its many benefits. The co-founders of this innovative application are Esosa Ighodaro and Abiodun Johnson. Ms. Ighodora is a former marketing executive for Citigroup and she has a love for fashion, and Mr. Johnson is a successful engineer and entrepreneur. Both of them were fed up of seeing various products on social media networks that they’d totally liked, as they had no clue on their cost, the brand that had made them, and where to find them. For this reason, they decided to create an application that will resolve this matter while being an income source as well.

COSIGN has been considered the lifestyle application that pays. It basically rewards you for what you are more than likely doing already, every now and then, which is endorsing various products on your social media profiles. How many times have you posted a photo of a product that you just purchased or of an item that you just added to your wish list? Imagine getting paid every time somebody clicks on that image and purchases it? Well, that is what this application is all about.

Yes, this application rewards users for sharing the products that they have ‘cosigned’ on. This is definitely a brand new change to the role of word-of-mouth marketing. At the moment, there is no other application like it. The function of it is pretty easy and simple. You will simply have to take a photo of an item, such as a shirt you spied at a shop, then you would ‘tag it’ with the price, retailer, and brand name of it. After performing this action, you will share it via your social media profiles so that all of your friends can view it. If a purchase results from somebody clicking on your photo, you will earn cash and various rewards.

As soon as the co-founders made the idea of this application public, the well-known business mogul Russell Simmons partnered with them so that this application becomes the exclusive Live stream destination for his upcoming menswear runway show. Ighodaro and Johnson are already planning to formally launch the COSIGN application for both Apple and Android devices in the following months.

10368275_10102628927001093_4616366342235970542_n

COSIGN will conduct photo tracking in order to provide users with all the statistics on the activity that involves their photos. You take a photo, tag an item, share it on your social media profiles, and potentially earn cash when somebody clicks on it. Anybody can do it!

COSIGN has already partnered with more than 1,200 brands and retailers across the country, such as Nordstrom’s, Walmart and Macy’s, to create a database that consists of more than thirteen million products that users can tag and upload in different categories, such as travel, drink and food, accessories and clothing, wellness and beauty, and many other categories as well.

The co-founders of this one-of-a-kind application strongly believe that word-of-mouth marketing is the number one factor that keeps retailers and brands alive. The issue here is that people don’t get compensated for spreading the word of any particular product. For this reason, this innovative application was created to basically reward normal day people, as they are one of the main endorsers of everything that sells around the globe.

Falling inflation a worry for Europe but also the world

New 10-euro banknotes are pictured during their presentation at the Austrian national bank in Vienna January 13, 2014. REUTERS/Heinz-Peter Bader2014-11-23T093023Z_1_LYNXNPEAAM037_RTROPTP_3_EURO-FAKES_original

By Ross Finley

LONDON (Reuters) – European Central Bank President Mario Draghi has moved closer to launching sovereign debt purchases and data this week will show just how dangerously low inflation has fallen in the $13 trillion euro zone economy.

A sickly Europe has held back global economic growth for years, and now it is contributing significantly to powerful forces already dragging down inflation across the globe.

A spectacular drop in crude oil prices over the past month will be the center of discussion when ministers from the world’s top oil exporters meets in Vienna on Friday.

The key question there is whether Saudi Arabia, which signaled last month it was comfortable with lower oil prices, accelerating a plunge in the price of crude to a third since June, will stick to that view.

But rapidly-increasing U.S. oil production, coinciding with shaky demand from China and Europe, is likely to keep a lid on the price no matter what the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) decides.

The latest Reuters poll suggests euro zone inflation relapsed to 0.3 percent in November, far from the ECB target of just below 2 percent.

“It is essential to bring back inflation to target and without delay,” Draghi said on Friday.

“Monetary policy can and will do its part to achieve this. But it is also clear that, as monetary policy works on the demand side of the economy, other policies can assist in this process – or at least not counteract it.”

After many years of austerity, Draghi and others have come around to the idea of loosening fiscal policy to invest in infrastructure. But Germany, which could best afford it, is focused on balancing its books for the first time since 1969.

ALARM BELLS

Despite years of zero interest rates across mature economies and trillions of dollars worth of emergency stimulus from central banks, alarm bells are ringing worldwide.

Japan’s experiment in raising sales taxes to try to revive inflation spawned news of yet another recession.

The People’s Bank of China, which is dealing with a falling property market and an inflation rate that has tumbled to just 1.6 percent, unexpectedly cut its main interest rates for the first time in more than two years on Friday.

The ECB, with rates as low they can go, has been doing everything in its power short of printing money – an option staunchly opposed by Germany.

Yet private credit figures this week may once again fail to show any real impact from the cheap long-term loans the ECB has offered banks to lend on to businesses (ECONEZ).

Bank credit to the private sector has been contracting for more than two years and the few economists who gave a forecast expect another roughly 1 percent fall compared with a year ago.

Even if the ECB does engage in sovereign QE, it may not make much difference with euro bond yields already so low.

The main effect would be to “contribute to a further depreciation of the euro to $1.15 by end-2016 and mitigate the upward pressure on bond yields in the euro zone that is likely to result from rises in U.S. Treasury yields as the Fed tightens the reins,” wrote Melanie Debono at Capital Economics.

But a rise in U.S. Treasury yields has been part of many economists’ forecasts for years now. Despite solid growth and modest inflation – likely to be confirmed in official data next week – Treasury yields have either remained low or moved lower.

With so many central banks having eased or prepared for possible easing over the last several months, it is becoming increasingly doubtful that the Federal Reserve will raise its benchmark rate from a record low by the middle of next year.

Jack Templar Monster Hunter: The Templar Chronicles: Book One (review)

crop_0c33d7940a35c716ac6d74a1c25672cb20dc74b51d5400fa364c2486a8337d6a22e5b1ab250250Jack Templar Monster Hunter: a book you should read:

Science fiction and fantasy books have been immensely popular among readers of all ages, especially since J. R. R. Tolkien wrote his Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy and C. S. Lewis his Chronicles of Narnia heptalogy during the middle of the twentieth century, and such recent works as the Harry Potter series have continued this tradition. One of the best modern fantasy books is Jack Templar Monster Hunter, by Jeff Gunhus, the first of a series called the Templar Chronicles, of which three subsequent books have been published already.

Overview of the plot:

Like Harry Potter, Jack Templar, who lives in the town of Sunnyvale, is an orphan who has no memory of his birth parents and has been raised by his aunt, who has given him little information about their deaths. Things are quite ordinary for him until the day before his tenth birthday, when he turns into a hero, saving his friend from bullies and even drawing the attention of the girl on whom he has a crush.

Subsequently, however, he receives a visit from a mysterious girl who tells him that he comes from a long line of monster hunters, a business in which he now finds himself. Eva — that is the girl’s name — also tells Jack that, due to a truce between the human and monster races, children are off limits until they turn fourteen. Tomorrow, therefore, a whole team of monsters is set to descend upon his town with the intent of killing him. Nor is this due to a general hatred that monsters, all of whom are known by the title of “Lord of the Crutch,” have for human beings: They have a personal grudge against Jack and want to do everything that they possibly can to make sure that his death is a slow and painful one. Learning why this is the case is the number-one question that plagues Jack throughout this volume, the essential plot of which is devoted to finding the answer thereto.

About the author:

Jeff Gunhus is a true devotee of the world of fantasy — and of writing in general. Indeed, the book discussed here came about as a result of the author’s attempt to get his son, then eleven, interested in reading! Since the publication of Monster Hunter in 2012, he has been no less passionate about helping other parents to overcome their children’s reluctance to learn how to read and write and has in fact become active in issues relating to child literacy. Mr. Gunhus has four other children and he and his wife are constantly trying to keep up with them — except, of course, during those rare quiet moments that he has, which he spends in the back of his favorite Annapolis café working on his next book.

Why you should read this book:

Jack Templar: Monster Hunter and its sequels are books that are particularly good reading for adolescence. This first book is essentially a “coming of age” story in which the protagonist-narrator learns about who he is and what he was meant to be — issues with which every teenager must deal with. Young readers will also love the casual teenage language in which the book is narrated because it enables them to identify with the main character.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
